Lieutenant Waite, who was on the right of the advance, at once wheeled his troop to the right, jumped the hedges still mounted, and got amongst the Turks. Lieutenant Wait (sic) used his revolver until shot through the body in five places, his men firing their rifles from their horses. ...For Lieutenent Waite's brilliant action in this battle, he was subsequently awarded the Military Cross, and Shoeing-smith T. Jones and Trooper S.L. Gofton (A.M.C. Details) were awarded the Military Medal.' (Wilson p97).
