Despite 16 years of research, no photo is known to exist of 2nd Lieutenant Thyer.

Nephew of the Misses Hervey, of 'Cranbourne', Ninth Avenue, Maylands, Western Australia. (Western Mail 1 Oct 1915 p31).

Father born 3 Dec 1862, Mount Pleasant, South Australia. Died 4 March 1905, aged 42, in Western Australia. Farmer and policeman.

Mother; Isabella Harvey, born 1 Aug 1860 at Adelaide South Australia. Died in Victoria 24 Dec 1903, aged 43.

Family tree in book 'By Wisdom and Courage'; the story of Joseph and Sarah Thyer who came to South Australia in 1838. Three sons; Walter Harvey, Brigadier James Harvey Thyer (born 30 Aug 1897, died 9 Jan 1975. See 'Who's Who' 1947), and Stanley Maitland Thyer, born 30 Jan 1899 at Naismith, Victoria. Died 13 Aug 1975. Served in AIF, WW1.
Brother; Brigadier James Henry Thyer of Erindale, South Australia, claimed Lieut. Thyer's Anzac Commemorative medallion. War medals were sent to NOK; aunt, Miss E. Thyer.
