Previously Lieutenant, 10th (Nelson) Mounted Rifles. Father, Major Deck, commanded unit.
Played rugby in 1st XV at school. Married Mabel Skinner, of Motueka, just before leaving New Zealand (Canterbury Times 8 Sept 1915 p60). (Lyttleton Times 4 Sep 1915 p14).).

Eldest son of Dr. Deck, Motueka. Mrs Deck [wife] lived with her sister, Mrs H. Johnson, of Nelson Street, Auckland, after Lieut. Deck left New Zealand.
